About MGC

Council History

The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) was established at Purdue University in 2003 to serve as a governing body; to create and maintain high standards in the life of culturally-based Fraternities and Sororities by addressing, managing and creating strategic programming; to unify organizations involved in MGC; and to have a positive relationship between MGC, other fraternity/sorority councils, the university student body and administration, thus improving campus life. The founding organizations are; Delta Phi Lambda Sorority,Inc., Delta Phi Mu Sorority, Inc., Lambda Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Lambda
Beta International Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc., and
Tau Phi Sigma Multicultural Fraternity, Inc.

MGC is one of the five governing bodies under Purdue Fraternity, Sorority, and Cooperative Life (FSCL). They work along the other governing bodies, Purdue Panhellenic Association, Purdue Inter Fraternity Council, Purdue Cooperative Council, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council. MGC currently has a total of 10 organizations; 5 sororities and 5 fraternities.

Events Held By MGC

Stroll Competition:

  • A Stroll is a line dance, usually participated by members of a NPHC or culturally-based Greek-letter organizations. This is a visual representation of the bond that ties together members of an organization. During this event organizations apart of MGC will compete to showcase their strolls with special Guest Judges.

Block Party:

  • Block Party is held at the beginning of the Fall Semester where organizations apart of MGC can table and get to know each other. Typically The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and Purdue Cultural Centers join us in the back to school block party. Food, Strolling, and games occur during this event.

Multicultural Showcase:

  • Multicultural showcase is a time where organizations apart of MGC celebrate with each other and take time showcase their own cultures.

Week of Events:

  • Week of Events are hosted every semester, where each organization gets a designated week to host events available for everyone. During their week they also host events for the Purdue community which include fun activities, educational series, and community service activities!

Painting the Diversity Tree:

  • Painting the diversity tree is a tradition for all of the culturally based Greek-Letter organizations (MGC and NPHC) and it allows them to show off their letters and organization since these orgs do not have a physical space on campus. Each of the different orgs get to paint the tree during a week of the semester.
